Advocate for Consumers

Student-driven advocacy is the backbone of what we do at the CLASS Network. In partnership with leading consumer protection organizations and agencies, we have filed public comments in important regulatory proposals at the state and federal level; submitted amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal Courts of Appeals, and state supreme courts, and conducted critical research projects in support of litigation and legislation. Check out some of the cross-CLASS network advocacy we’ve done.

Alex Izbiky, University of Michigan Law School ‘25

“Working with David to support CLASS's comment in response to the FTC rulemaking prohibiting junk fees was the type of hands-on work that helped me affirm my passion for consumer law. The opportunity to gain first-hand experience advocating for consumers is irreplaceable!”

Dean Marvastian, University of Maryland, Carey School of Law (and co-founder of UMD’s CLASS Chapter)

"As an evening student, I appreciate the CLASS Network for accommodating a plethora of events and writing and research opportunities throughout the year, encouraging all students to participate in consumer advocacy. With the support of the CLASS Network, my peers and I were able to practice and improve our legal writing by assisting on a comment to the CFPB concerning the agency's proposed rule on overdraft fees charged by large financial institutions."

Adam Teitelbaum & Kevin Vermillion, D.C. Office of the Attorney General

“The D.C. Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection values our growing partnership with CLASS, which we’ve strengthened over the past several years. We view this as truly a win-win: we’re able to mentor students and share some of our experience and knowledge, and in turn we have the benefit of eager, sharp minds helping us to address complex legal challenges to further our work.”
