The Consumer Law Advocates, Scholars & Students (CLASS) Network is an innovative, nationwide initiative that seeks to foster the next generation of lawyers working for consumer protection and economic justice. Launched in 2018, the CLASS Network is a collaboration of the Center for Consumer Law and Economic Justice at Berkeley Law and the National Association of Consumer Advocates. We’re a community of law students, professors, and advocates dedicated to developing consumer law and economic justice curriculum, experiential opportunities, and coordinated projects at law schools around the country.

Through the CLASS Network, law students have the opportunity to learn about the exciting and cutting-edge field of economic justice law, connect with leaders in our field from government, non-profit, legal services, private practice and academia, and advocate for consumer justice through research, public comments, and amicus briefs.

The CLASS Network now counts over 30 law schools in its universe, with more on the horizon. Our network consists of these law schools with CLASS chapters – all student consumer law organizations dedicated to engaging law students with consumer law through practical experience. We also work with at least fifteen consumer law clinics who are affiliated with the CLASS Network.

“I first learned about consumer law by overhearing some of my classmates talk about various class actions they were submitting claims for – and I was fascinated from that moment on. I am passionate about consumer law because one consumer case or action could touch the lives of people across the country, and sometimes across the world! After getting a few enthusiastic classmates together and starting the GW Consumer Law Association, I was excited to connect with CLASS and receive guidance from the network. As a member of CLASS, our Association is able to share CLASS webinars with students and provide opportunities to participate in pro-bono projects with Attorney General's offices!”

"As an evening student, I appreciate the CLASS Network for accommodating a plethora of events and writing and research opportunities throughout the year, encouraging all students to participate in consumer advocacy. With the support of the CLASS Network, my peers and I were able to practice and improve our legal writing by assisting on a comment to the CFPB concerning the agency's proposed rule on overdraft fees charged by large financial institutions."
