Shelmun Dashan serves as the Center's Policy Director, overseeing ongoing economic justice advocacy, policy, and coalition-building efforts.
Shelmun most recently served as the Deputy Director of the Division of Financial Institutions at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Before that, she was a staff attorney at two legal aid organizations in Chicago — Legal Council for Health Justice and Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago (now Legal Aid Chicago). There she represented clients in consumer protection, eviction defense, subsidized housing terminations, nursing home evictions, access to public benefits, and HIV-status discrimination cases.
Shelmun graduated from Harvard Law School. She is admitted to practice law in Illinois and loves to ski.
