We’re Hiring A Policy Director!

November 21, 2024

At the UC Berkeley Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice, we work to establish equity and fairness in the marketplace. We believe that building economic justice means developing and enforcing laws that fight fraud and deception, that protect low-income communities and communities of color, and that promote financial security and empowerment. Through research, advocacy, policy, and teaching, the Center strives to apply robust consumer protection laws in places, and among people, where those laws haven’t been used before, and to create a society in which economic, racial and social justice are available to all.

Along with our sister organization the California Low-Income Consumer Coalition, we’ve supported first-in-the-nation legislation in California (and beyond) to rein in predatory debt collectors and debt buyers; helped victims of elder fraud, domestic violence, and home improvement scam artists; tackled financial abuse in the criminal-legal system; protected low-income homeowners from foreclosure; helped establish the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation – a CFPB for the Golden State. Plus, we’ve conducted research, convened groundbreaking summits, and filed amicus briefs and public comments on emerging issues like consumer privacy, data broker laws, and algorithmic discrimination.

Now, we’re hiring our first-ever Policy Director to join the team and raise the game of our policy advocacy in California, in DC, and in states across the nation. We’re looking for an innovative, entrepreneurial, and dedicated advocate who is committed to economic justice and – alongside our staff and broader community of lawyers, advocates, professors, and students – ready to advance equity and fairness in the marketplace at the nation’s leading academic center focused on consumer protection and economic justice.

Does that sound like anyone you know?
