Last week, Center staff and students relocated to Orlando, Florida for the 2024 national Consumer Rights Litigation Conference.
Seven (7!) Berkeley Law 2Ls (Abby Smith, Adam Dean, Areya Behrouzian, Curt Baker, Ezra Berger, Julian Sanghvi, and Niyati Narang) participated in seminars throughout the week and met with practitioners from across the country. Among their favorite sessions:
- Justice-Involved People & Consumer Protections Challenges
- Empowering Immigrant Survivors: Economic and Consumer Rights for Immigrant Survivors of Domestic Violence
- Access to Justice Update: A Review of Recent Decisions in Arbitration and Standing
- Challenging Alternative Financial Products
Additionally, the Center hosted a brown-bag lunch session ("So You Want to Teach Consumer Law?") led by Ted Mermin and David Nahmias. In a room packed so full that some had to stand, attorneys from the government, nonprofit, and private sectors joined to learn about mentorship, class ideas, and topics of interest to students.
The Center also had the pleasure of connecting with friends new and old. At a conference-eve dinner in Disney Springs, the Center enjoyed the good company of alums (Elliot Conn, Jackie Osorno, Hanne Jensen, Eliza Duggan, and Luke Diamond) and friends from Public Justice and Truth in Advertising (TINA.org). Throughout the week, the Center also linked up with students from across the CLASS Network (who had traveled from Montana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere in Florida).
What a week it was!
