The Center is pleased to share that Co-Faculty Director Abbye Atkinson has been appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Research at Berkeley Law. Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, who invited Atkinson into the role, praised her as “the perfect person,” citing her combination of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Atkinson, whose scholarship examines consumer law through the lens of economic inequality, joined the Berkeley Law faculty in 2017 and earned tenure in 2023. In her new role, she will oversee faculty mentoring and the promotion, tenure, and merit process, with a particular focus on supporting junior faculty as they build their scholarly careers.
“One of the best parts about being at Berkeley is my colleagues, and this job is giving me an even closer look,” Atkinson said. “I'm especially eager to work with my junior colleagues, who are wonderfully accomplished and deserving of recognition for their scholarship.”
